Note Concerning the Panama College of Cell Science, a Biology Graduate School within Blue Marble University, that administers our programs in Stem Cell Biology.
The Panama College of Cell Science was initially formed and sponsored by the Drake Biomedical Institute to accomplish its educational mission in stem cell science, namely to train clinicians, scientists, researchers, teachers, health care managers, and others in this new science and the potential of the science to be transformative in medicine and biology.
The Republic of Panama was the original location of our administrative office with the idea of being close to some of the major clinics using adult stem cell therapy. After the College got rolling, those of us involved liked the model we had created for a virtual university very much and wanted to expand the program offerings, but yet our name was limiting. In other words, it was not really appropriate to have a humanities program at a “cell science” college. Plus, there were student records which had to be maintained permanently and also degrees had been issued. Permanency is an important attribute of an educational institution.
Blue Marble University was formed as a separate entity with the long range plan to merge the two virtual institutions into one. Effective January 1, 2013, the Panama College of Cell Science was merged with Blue Marble University and operates as an autonomous college within the University. What this means is that the Panama College of Cell Science retains its own faculty, handles its own financial matters, and administers its own program in stem cell biology, which now becomes the stem cell biology program of Blue Marble University. This is similar to many universities that are made up of several colleges or schools. The Panama College of Cell Science is a biology graduate school within Blue Marble University.
The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is issued by Blue Marble University upon the recommendation of the Faculty of the Panama College of Cell Science. This exciting, stand-alone biology doctoral program remains the only doctoral program in stem cell biology that can be completed entirely online.
PhD Stem Cell Biology (3 year program): An online biology graduate program in the new field of stem cell sciences which can be completed entirely online. This program presents graduate level core biology concepts and then moves on to specialized subjects relating to stem cell science. The purpose of the course is to teach not only the basic science of stem cell biology, but also the practical applications to patient treatment today, through the exploration of international therapies using adult stem cells. The program is excellent for those that may be interested in not only a research career, but also a career in clinical medicine, pharmacology, or health administration. The course can be completed entirely online within a 3 year period. This program has been pre-reviewed by a USA approved foreign credential evaluation service as being equivalent to that of a regionally accredited USA college or university. This program is administered by the Faculty of the Panama College of Cell Science. Information on the Curriculum, Program, and How to Apply can be found at the website for the Panama College of Cell Science.
BS/PhD Stem Cell Biology (5 year combined program for High School Graduates): This program features 2 years of preparation courses in basic sciences leading into our regular 3 year doctoral program administered by the Panama College of Cell Science. Graduates receive combined Bachelor Degree and Doctoral Degree. High School graduates and Home Schoolers should apply to this program at our regular application page: How To Apply
D.Sc. Applied Biology (3 year program): This program teaches concepts in applied biology, that is the role of biology in medical, agricultural, and industrial applications. This is a multidisciplinary program that is intended to vest the graduate in a broad and useful education that will be useful in many fields of endeavor. It is the intent of Blue Marble University to avoid where possible the training of doctoral candidates with too specialized and too narrow a focus. Rather, graduates would be expected to be able to follow endeavors in a variety of different settings, including clinical, biomedical, research, industrial, and academic.
B.S./D.Sc. Applied Biology B.S./D.Sc. Applied Biology (5 year fast track program for High School Graduates): This program features 2 years of preparation courses in basic sciences leading into our regular 3 year doctoral program. Graduates receive combined Bachelor Degree and Doctoral Degree.
